Outdoor Room Concept

Designing and developing spaces similar to the way that they would in a structure. Design with use area in mind. Choosing a surface for the floor, controlling ceiling feeling with structure or plant material, buffering the sides with some form of a wall, and decorating that area if needed. When an outdoor room is masterfully developed it brings the feeling of the indoors outside.

Use Area
|
Areas within the landscape that serve different functions. For example the public use area would include the front yard, private use area would be the back yard, utilitarian use area includes storage shed, garbage can storage, dog pen, etc.

Circulation
|
The intended travel areas to be used on a property by design. Comprised of walkways, steps, landings, paths and stepping stones

Unity
|
Obtained by the effective use of components in a design to express a main idea through consistent style.

Balance
|
Refers to the equilibrium or equality of visual attraction.

Transition

Gradual change

Proportion
|
Size of the parts of the design in relation to each other and to the design as a whole

Rhythm
|
Achieved when the elements of a design creates a feeling of motion which leads the viewer's eye through or even beyond the designed area.

Focalization

Involves the leading of visual observation toward a feature by placement of this feature at the vanishing point between radial or approaching lines.

Repetition
|
Repeated use of features like plants with identical shape, line, form, texture and/or color.
