Neave Landscaping, Inc., which has a satellite office in Croton-on-Hudson, provides design, planting, site work, irrigation, lighting, masonry, pools, water features, and even does holiday lighting and decorating.

A family business, started in 1973, and run by Scott Neave and his parents, the company employs close to 50 staffers during the peak season. It is structured into various divisions, explains Neave, allowing them to provide clients with experts in each field. They have a certified arborist, a NYS certified pesticide applicator, as well as those specializing in maintenance, irrigation, and other aspects of landscape design and installation.

Neave, who has a degree in landscape contracting from Penn State, says, "We have an educated staff. Most of our designers and managers have a horticultural degree. We recruit out of different horticultural colleges every year."

Water features have become very popular. "We've done large waterfalls with koi ponds and gazebos with ponds and bridges. This spring we're completing a job with a waterfall that's about ten feet high with multiple cascading falls into a forty by forty foot pond with a bridge over it," he boasts. It's the latest installation on a property they've worked on for a few years, having landscaped the pool, irrigated the land, and installed a driveway.

Neave stresses that their design concepts are "based on what it's going to look like five to ten years from now." The company extends a guarantee on installations such as patios, irrigation systems, and plants when clients request their maintenance program. They also give clients a binder with maintenance instructions if they want to do it themselves.

Neave believes it's their job to help their clients visualize the final outcome, since they are really buying a concept, not a product: "It makes it a challenge but also a lot of fun."
