Ornamental & Structural Pruning
We love, study, and understand plant material. Not every plant should or can just get whacked with a pair of gas power shears at any point in time without sacrificing the health and well being of that plant. Our experienced and knowledgeable staff can develop a pruning schedule that will maximize the bloom quality and health of your plants.
Strategic pruning of your specimen plants can be especially important. This process is necessary every couple of years to keep desired shape and maintain health. Specimen plants are the stars of your landscape. These specimen plants are the most expensive plants upon installation of the design, and they continue to increase in value through the years as long as they remain in high health and good condition. Dormant pruning involves removing branches or limbs while the trees and shrubs have no leaves on them. This is an excellent practice because our arborist has an unhindered view of the structural formation of the branches. This clear view allows him to be selective and remove the proper pieces from the plants or trees in question. Some of the problems that we look for while pruning include crossing branches, dead or decaying wood, weak branch attachments.
Weak branch attachment is the leading cause of broken branches during high wind scenarios. The closer to 0 degrees the attachment angle measures, the weaker it is, a 90 degree angle is the strongest attachment. The lower degree angles of attachment are weak due to a large amount of included bark. Included bark is a bark to bark interface that the tree grows around over time. These branches should be removed before they begin to damage the future growth of the trunk.

Storms are unpredictable but damage to you your house is not. Call Neave for a TRA – Tree Risk Assessment. Our knowledgeable associates can assess the risk level of possible property damage you may incur thru analysis of the health of your trees, proximity to your house, and visible amount of existing damage or decay. We can present all of our findings and suggest a plan of action to move forward.
